The Israeli military issued an urgent warning on Sunday, ordering residents in several towns and villages across southern Lebanon to evacuate their homes immediately. The directive instructs civilians to move at least 1,000 meters away into open areas, ahead of what the military announced would be an offensive targeting 11 specific locations. These operations are reportedly aimed at Hezbollah, according to Reuters.
The towns and villages designated for evacuation and attack include Doueir, Arab Salim, Sharqiyeh (Nabatiyeh), Jibshit, Barashit, Sarafand, Dounin, Bureiqa, Qa'qa'iyat al-Jisr, Qassibeh (Nabatiyeh), and Kafr Sir. This list was reported by Al Jazeera, as cited by The Independent. The military explicitly urged residents to distance themselves from their communities to avoid potential harm.
The Israeli military stated its actions are part of ongoing operations against the Hezbollah group, following what it described as a violation of a ceasefire agreement. The military issued a stern warning that anyone found near Hezbollah fighters or their facilities could be exposed to danger, underscoring the serious nature of the impending offensive.
This escalation comes amidst continued Israeli airstrikes across southern Lebanon. Israeli forces currently occupy a strip of land in the country's south, where they have been systematically destroying homes, which they claim constitute infrastructure used by Hezbollah. These actions reflect a broader strategy to dismantle the group's operational capabilities in the region.
Concurrently, the Iran-backed armed group, Hezbollah, has maintained its own campaign of aggression. The group has launched a series of drone and missile attacks targeting Israeli forces stationed in Lebanon and communities in northern Israel. This reciprocal exchange of hostilities highlights the volatile and deeply entrenched conflict dynamics in the border region. The urgent evacuation order signals a significant intensification of this long-standing confrontation.
