Casey Harrell, living with ALS and paralysis, has become a pioneer in brain-computer interface (BCI) technology. For nearly three years, electrodes embedded in his brain have enabled him to "speak" since 2023, accumulating thousands of hours of use. This remarkable achievement underscores the transformative potential of BCIs for individuals with severe motor impairments, offering a new avenue for communication and interaction with the world.
Harrell now operates his device with significant independence, using it not only for communication but also to browse the internet and perform his job duties. His team has continuously enhanced the system, dubbing him "the first power user of a speech BCI." Defying the limitations of his condition, Harrell expressed to MIT Technology Review, "Living with a disease like ALS, you are supposed to have diminished dreams. I do not," highlighting the profound impact of this technology on his quality of life and aspirations, proving that disability does not have to limit dreams.

A Pew Research Center survey across 25 countries revealed that only 16% of South Koreans are more concerned than excited about AI, the lowest figure recorded.
