OpenAI has officially rolled out its latest default model for ChatGPT, dubbed GPT-5.5 Instant, promising a substantial leap forward in the reliability and utility of its conversational AI. This new iteration addresses one of the most persistent challenges in artificial intelligence: "hallucinations," where AI models generate factually incorrect or nonsensical information. OpenAI claims that GPT-5.5 Instant delivers "significant improvements in factuality across the board," marking a crucial step towards more trustworthy AI interactions. According to internal evaluations conducted by OpenAI, GPT-5.5 Instant demonstrated remarkable progress in mitigating these factual errors. The company reports a "52.5% fewer hallucinated claims" compared to its predecessor, GPT-5.3 Instant, particularly when handling "high-stakes prompts" in sensitive areas such as medicine, law, and finance. Furthermore, the model showcased a "37.3% reduction in inaccurate claims" during "especially challenging conversations" that users had previously flagged for factual discrepancies. Beyond improved factuality, GPT-5.5 Instant is also touted as "more capable across everyday tasks."
